The Nashville Aquarium and Stingray Reef, located in Opry Mills Mall is seeking a full-time Biologist/Aquarist with a focus on reptile and amphibian husbandry. The Aquarium includes over 200,000 gallons of aquatic exhibits and over 1,000 fish, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates represented in a collection of over a hundred species. Responsibilities include maintaining exhibit aesthetics, water quality and life support systems, establishing appropriate feeding regimes, observations on animal health and application of appropriate treatments or actions, assisting with exhibit design and installation, maintaining support areas, and ensuring that all records are up to date and complete. Also performs diving duties and demonstrations and participates in the delivery of interpretive programs, including public speaking and direct interaction with Aquarium guests.
Must hold a valid PADI or NAUI dive certification. Although qualified candidates can be trained, knowledge of aquarium systems, aquatic biology, and prior aquarium experience are preferred. A degree in Zoology, Biology or related field is beneficial, but experience with aquatic animal husbandry may be considered. Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
